With profound sadness and heartfelt sympathy, we remember and honor the life of Mr. Matthew “Matt” Dylan Tapp, age 28, who passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026, at his residence in Cartersville, Georgia. His passing has left family members, friends, and the community grieving the loss of a devoted father, loving fiancé, and hardworking young man whose presence touched many lives.
Born on April 25, 1998, in Dalton, Georgia, Matthew was the son of John David Tapp, Jr. of Trion, Georgia, and Crissa Blackwell Thomas of Panama City Beach, Florida. From an early age, he was known for his energetic spirit and determination. During his time at Chattooga High School, he proudly participated in football and wrestling, where he developed discipline, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.
Matthew was a dedicated and hardworking individual who built his career with Plateau Excavation, where he served as a pipelayer. He was respected by coworkers for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Above all else, Matthew’s greatest joy in life was his children. His son, Xander, and daughter, Ivory, were the light of his life and his greatest source of pride and love.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Junior Blackwell and John David Tapp, Sr., and his grandmother, Cyclinda Youngblood.
Matthew is survived by his fiancée, Mya Weddle; his children, Xander Byron Tapp and Ivory Lynn Tapp; his parents, John David Tapp, Jr. (Amber) and Crissa Blackwell Thomas; his grandmothers, Betty Brooks and Paulette Lowrance; his brothers, Michael Tapp, Zach McGuire, Zach Tapp (Shawnna), Levi McGuire, Cameron Tapp, and Zayden Tapp; and his sisters, Kristina Tapp, Alexias Evans (Josh), Destinee McGuire, and Andrea Tapp. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who will cherish his memory.
